One of the great things about being a journalist is that interesting things tend to hit your desk without you ever having to look for them. Case in point: Mom Corps. Recently, I got an email from the executive assistant at the Atlanta-based company telling me about an “Own Your Life” conference that’s going to take place on May 10 in Atlanta, Georgia. Well, wait. I should back up a bit. If you’ve never heard of Mom Corps (I never had), you should know it’s a company that was created to help women balance work and home life. The company is sort of a headhunter for momsâ€â€they help women find work with flexible schedules, so they can put family first. What a great concept, right? If you’re looking for a job, check out the website: momcorps.com. You’ll find a few job listings in various cities around the country, including New York. Some jobs offer commission-based salaries, others work-from-home set-ups, but all help moms stay in the workforce or re-enter it on their own terms. Kudos to you, Allison O’Kelly, the CEO who started the company. Not only have you helped women find a tolerable path back to the office, but you’ve set an example by thinking outside the box and creating a work/life situation that works for you.
I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday. She’s a brilliant woman who’s having trouble finding a job in the Myrtle Beach area, because she wants the flexibility to be with her 1-year-old daughter. I mentioned Mom Corps to her and said, maybe you have to create the situation you want, not find it. Maybe we all do.
In any case, if you’re interested in “owning your life” (or at least the parts of it that your kids don’t own!), check out the event in May and visit the website. You just might get inspired. I know I did.

I would say,a good group. It is a shame that there are very few day cares at the work place. When will it change. The first thoughts of this idea is,maybe 25 years ago. When wiil the mental health of the children be considered. Don
Its great companies are starting the see the importance of offering flexiblity to their employees. Another great site I found that connects moms with flexible jobs is needlestackjobs.com.
