Little Dogs

June
11

Are moms really that needy?? I can’t tell you how many women I see with little dogs—driving with their owners ON THEIR LAPS picking up the kids from school or placing them in little shopping bags to run their errands.  Seriously women: are you not busy enough? I’m happy to give you some of my errands to do…

Some would say I’m mean (ok, I am a little bit) but I really don’t get the little dog/mom phenomenon.

Dote and Dole

June
7

I like to think I’m fostering a sense of independence in my girls, but on the other hand: there I was yesterday catering to my 14-year-old’s every whim: rushing like a chicken with  my head cut off/maniac to pick her up from a play rehearsal and take her to a camp orientation, then back…..in between I got Ms. Princess a sandwich from her favorite deli, chips for tomorrow’s 8th grade dance, and got her dress from the cleaners, not to mention the “right” shampoo from CVS. I always know when she wants something cause that’s when I get her “sweet-I-love-you-Mommy voice” (which at 14, I can go for days without hearing).

I was thinking about all this as I collapsed into bed last night at 8:45. I was SOOOOOO tired from the stress/deadlines at work and then the stress/deadlines of getting her where she needed to be….(and driving fast!) not to mention then rushing to make dinner for my little one (who of course got hungry just as the phone was ringing for me to run out again to get Corey…oh well…at least it was a lesson in how to make a hotdog!).

A good night’s sleep and I have to say I feel a little better … and able to handle today’s drive (which will thankfully only be in one shift). Though yes, I did spend the wee hours of the morning at the bank, the food store, CVS and (thank god for) Starbucks—all before 8:30 a.m. I think I’ve said it before: I need a wife! Or at least another set of hands! Don’t even ask what my house looks like!

Is your teen having sex?

June
5

How can you tell if your teen is having sex? A new group based in Rockland initiated by The Planned Parenthood Federation of America wants to help you with any sex/health questions you have regarding the health and welfare of your kids and will even come to your home if you want to have a meeting of friends to discuss various issues. I’m planning on signing up. Check out RealLifeRealTalk.

Pampered Campers

June
4

I am officially grossed out. According to a story in today’s New York Post, monied parents are now sending their precious offspring off to camp in private jets—even when said camp is only a few hours away. Apparently, it’s a trend among Those Who Have So Much Money They Don’t Know What To Do With It—except pamper their kids MORE! Chicken nuggets, peanut butter and ice cream sundaes are served, along with one Master’s request who wanted Cap’ n Crunch. One 9-year-old is even having her birthday party on a private jet with a manicurist and model playing off the runway theme. And the parents are proud of that?

Seriously People: what kind of monsters are you creating? The rest of us mere mortal parents really don’t need our kids growing up alongside these kids (after all: worlds will eventually collide circa Rich Men, Poor Men). It’s hard enough raising our children to be good, compassionate, caring citizens—do we really  need more Paris Hiltons out there?

Ready for the Beach!

June
1

Every now and then I have to toot my own horn. And since it’s Friday and we all want to be OUTSIDE inside of inside working—- check out my RNN segment on beach gear. I particularly love the Summer-ologist t-shirts. Though mine might read: Multi-tasking-ologist. Or Car-pool-ologist. Or Mom is not my real-name-ologist. Or why does Christa Lauri (another working mom) always look more put-together than me-ologist? Ok…I’ll stop now. Roll the video tape….
