School Plays

Raise your hand if you agree….today’s school plays (at least in Westchester that “high-achieving” area) is all about kids who take acting lessons getting the lead parts in the school play—we’re talking the middle school level while kids (like mine!!) are relegated (every year!) to chorus or other non-speaking parts. My daughter is now quitting—just the same kids over and over getting the top parts. Why do we need Broadway style productions at the middle school level? I, for one, still appreciate the cuteness of a REAL school play!

Heh, going through the same thing in middle school as we speak.
I so agree!!! It seems the coordinator of these plays have favorites and alienate the other kids who may not be as “good”. But my thing is that our kids who may not be the actors or singers of the school are not given the chance to truly show their talent. My daughter says the same thing…Oh Mom, they will pick the same kids, so why try…it really is the person over the play that makes the decisions and therefore needs to be educated on including all kids.
